As with all great writing, though this is hyperspecific to you and your grandpa, it feels universal and relatable and true. Today is the birthday of an amazing, brilliant uncle of mine, who passed unexpectedly two years ago. Your essay was a lovely thing, to read today. Thank you for sharing.

I love the idea of your grandfather being of a bygone age and not wanting help and leaving things vague for you [and later the reader] to decide. Despite presumably warring baseball teams; it is good to know there is still commonality. We are all still human. Well done!
